Late night with a bunch of other students, thinking you’re about to get fucked by UofT… for alumni, that metaphor for academic underachievement is painfully familiar. For those with an active student card, that wasn’t a metaphor. On Monday January 21st, The University of Toronto Sexual Education Centre (SEC) kicked off its annual Sexual Awareness Week at Oasis Aqua Lounge, a downtown club where swingers are welcome and sex is allowed everywhere but the hot tub. SEC’s sexual awareness week includes a discussion on sex positivity, an interactive sex toy demonstration and an afternoon of pornography. Following Harvard’s official recognition of the Harvard College Munch for Bondage, Discipline, Sadism and Masochism (BDSM) as a student society, maybe the SEC could try starting a few fetish subgroups? Group sex can’t be the only way to get reduced cover in Toronto. External education and outreach coordinator Dylan Tower said [the event] is a safe and cheaper way to introduce curious students to the sex club scene in Toronto. The group plans to provide a “myriad of safer-sex supplies” and volunteers to “make sure everyone is respectful and having the best experience Oasis has to offer”.
