Okay… I’ll tell you a little bit about what I do when I’m not seeing Clients. I love my work but like most people, I also love my days off. Those days are about recharging my batteries and being good to me.
A peek:
7:00 am – 8:30 am – The Gym
I’m an early riser. I start my day with yoga and time at the gym because while my body is one hundred percent natural, I make the time to take care of it. I’ll admit, I’m also one of those people who love the endorphin rush from working out – what can I say? I like to get the heart pumping. I grab a breakfast smoothie from my favourite spot and make my way home.
Want to know something funny? There’s a Client that comes to my gym to take spin classes three days a week; thankfully he never makes it awkward, which is amazing. Pro tip: if you see us in real life, we may give you slight nod in recognition, but that would be it. Your world is yours just as my world is mine and it’s more fun to keep them separate, don’t you agree?
10:00 am – 1:00 pm – Beauty
I’m due for a cut with my favourite stylist and have been looking forward to this appointment for weeks. I have a busy weekend ahead, so I’m here for the full head to toe salon treatment. “Nails done, hair done, everything did…” as the song goes. When I leave, I feel like a brand new woman. Days that involve scalp massages and foot massage are great days indeed. Which reminds me of a favourite client of mine who loves to give foot massages (but that’s a story for another day).
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Lunch
Once a month I meet up with one of my girlfriends for lunch. In my real life, some of my friends know what I do for work and the others know I’m a personal effectiveness consultant (I mean, it’s close ~wink~). This friend knows that I’m a Companion because she used to be one herself. We catch up on each other’s lives and talk a little shop but not too much shop. Lunch is at one of my favourite non-work spots. I like to have places and activities that aren’t work related.
Not just because I may bump into a Client, but so that each space can feel special for different reasons.
3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – The Library
Yes, you read that correctly. I love reading. When my last bookcase collapsed under the weight of books, I made a promise to myself that I would get a library card and not buy any books for at least a year. It’s been really hard sticking to that promise, but I’ve managed. I can get lost for hours picking out new books or re-reading favourites, and there’s just something about the smell of a library book. I would not be surprised if it was a fetish. The only reason I leave the library is because I get a phone call from a friend I haven’t heard from in a bit and when I see the time, I realize I’ve been lost in my books for two hours!
Lunch was big and dinner has already been decided, so I decide to do a little window shopping. Window shopping turns into actual shopping and I end up grabbing a few things from my favourite store. Just a few, since one of my very generous clients is sending me a few items from my wish list.
7:30 – 9:00 pm – Cooking Class
Confession: I’m a really bad cook. As in, “I burned the pot so bad I have to buy a new one” type of cook. For my last birthday, I decided that I wanted to learn how to make at least three great meals and signed up for cooking classes and now, cooking has become my favourite hobby. I’m not just learning how to make lasagna either; I’m taking the kind of classes that aspiring chefs have to take. I’ve had to learn how to buy knives, cut nothing but veggies for three weeks, and make soup stock from scratch. These classes have not only taught me how to make food, but learn more about what I put into my body. I’ve actually changed some of my eating habits and the results are showing – in a very good way.
It’s true what they say: things taste so much better when you use fresh ingredients.
10:00 – 12:00 – Netflix and…
Oh I knew you thought I was going to say “chill”. Naughty! I think it’s fair to assume that I’m the kind of woman who loves books, bourbon, and documentaries. I like to watch the true crime ones with multiple episodes and just completely geek out. But I never binge. Nope. I will watch one episode at a time. I believe in indulging and savoring the moment. I believe in delayed gratification. I like to take my time with things and really absorb them. I the kind of person who likes drinks you can sip, and food you can nibble on. I like Netflix and books because when something is really good, you can go back over it a few times to really let it sink in. It’s the perfect way to end a day.
Which is how this one ends. Early to bed, early to rise, et cetera et cetera. Tomorrow I’m back on the schedule. See you soon.
