I had lived in Toronto for over a decade and knew nothing about my city. I’d been to concerts and games and even to some tourist attractions, but I had been too busy working to ever take in the city and enjoy it. In the past, any time I had time off, I booked a vacation somewhere else.
Home wasn’t going anywhere. But in the last couple of years I had realized that I had no idea what home really was. Outside of my usual routine, I barely knew how to get around. I didn’t even know what the women were like, because I kept my adventures out of the city. No need to have awkward run-ins with anyone the next day, you know what I mean?
There I was, in my city with free time on my hands and I realized that I was ready to explore it for the first time since I moved here. I also realized it had been awhile since I had an adventure.
I decided to find a tour guide.
When I booked with Cupid’s I explained that I would want to have a date with someone who would take the lead and show me around. The woman on the phone who screened me was surprised by my request because I wasn’t from out of town. I explained that I worked so much I might as well be a tourist. She chuckled and said “I know the feeling…” and proceeded to go through my options for a Companion that evening. I would have to pick the basics: a restaurant and a hotel that would be the agreed upon locations. What happened between point A and point B would be completely up to my tour guide. I was definitely looking forward to this new adventure.
Not gonna lie, when she arrived at the restaurant it became a little challenging to contain my excitement. I promise you this: Cupid’s never catfishes. The woman was stunning and I could tell from the half smirk on her face that I was going to be in for a fun night. Once we settled into our booth, she started to explain what my options were and what we would need.
For the first time, I was actually excited to be at home. Our adventures began, and she took me to a bunch of places that I had never been to before. That I didn’t even know existed. I found out halfway through the night that there were places she had never been before and realizing that we discovered them together made it feel a little more special. There were places I definitely wanted to go back to and if I were to go, I would want to take this Companion with me.
The next morning, I woke up early. Before the sun rose, which was wild because our night had only ended a few hours earlier and I was surprised that I lasted as long as I did. Being a tourist in a city like this requires a lot of energy. My tour guide was completely wiped out though. I looked over and she looked so beautiful. Like I said, Cupid’s never catfishes. I got up quietly and left my sleeping goddess a thank you note and something extra to treat herself.
As I headed home, I looked at my city with new eyes. I no longer call myself a resident tourist; I lived here. I will say this: I’ve had some lovely tour guides in my past, but this Companion showed me that there is really no place like home.
